The sixth edition of Sharjah Ladies Run (SLR) had roughly around 1,300 women and girls from 44 nationalities.
It was supervised by Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC), the occasion concurred with International Women’s Day celebrations. It also observed 66 percent of Emirati athletes from all seven emirates. They took part in 10km and 5km runs to articulate solidarity with the message of International Women’s Day.
The race also announced a special prize devoted to the first three Emirati finishers in both competition categories.
The total prize money of Dh 75,000, as well as medals and certificates, were presented to the winners.
Khowla Al Serkal, director-general of SLC, declared: “The sixth edition of the Sharjah Ladies Run is very special as for the first time we witnessed the addition of a new group to inspire Emirati ladies. While the Sharjah Ladies Run is intended at women of all nationalities, age groups, and backgrounds, we determined to produce this new award category to encourage female citizens in the UAE, to make exercise a component of their daily lives.”
SLC has also donated a fraction of the event’s profits to Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) to support women in their fight against cancer.
